Ode to the BIG CURLY FRO!

I love the Fro in general! It’s a beautiful halo that naturally adorns your head! You can pick it, spike it, mold it, shape it, and even curl it!  After your crown is perfect, accessorize it!

Enjoy the afrolicious eye candy!

I wondered how many people are so into ‘fros that they write about them…whaddya know!  People write poems about their love for their BAA (Big A$s Afro)!

My Afro Poem

I have an afro.

Tell Em’ How You Really Feel Fridays

Now you understand
Just why my head’s not bowed.
I don’t shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It’s in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
‘Cause I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

–Except from Maya Angelou’s “Phenomenal Woman”

What makes you Phenomenal?

Youth Sentenced, Get Life in Prison for Hair Weave Theft in Michigan

Never, did I think I’d see the day when people would be receiving criminal sentences for stealing hair 😐 What has the world come to?

“One man has been murdered in Michigan when thieves stole packages of hair valued at $10,000 from his shop.

Earlier this week and last month in Atlanta, thieves pulled off smash and grab robberies, each valued at approximately $30,000. The thieves boldly smashed cars into windows of the establishments similar to big diamond heist in movies”.

Did the Surgeon General get it wrong?

Mary Mitchell of the Chicago Sun-Times believes so! Earlier in the week, I posted an article where the Surgeon General, Regina M. Benjamin, attributed the lack of exercise among black women to them being more concerned with protecting their hairstyles. Mitchell says “that some of it has do with socialization, while for others it boils down to economics”.

Surgeon General: Women Choose beauty over health

That’s right ladies!

“Surgeon general Regina M. Benjamin recently warned attendees of the Bronner Bros. International Hair Show in Atlanta, Georgia that women who skip exercising in order to protect their hairstyles should focus more on their health.” According to the Surgeon General, “on average women spend way more on beauty products than health care: $540 a month on hair products, make-up, and fake tanners, compared to $360 on their physical well-being.”
