Weekend Re-Cap

CarmelKitchenHappy Monday Folks;  I had a great weekend and I hope you did too!

First up, I attended an event called Black Girls, Sipping White Wine at the Carmel Kitchen, through being a member of MeetUp.com!  The Carmel Kitchen, located at 140 N. Orlando Ave in Winter Park Florida, offers a beautiful ambiance, appetizing food, and happy hour 7 days a week, 4-7pm!

Not only does MeetUp keep me active and connected with like minded people, but it also exposes to me places I may not have visited in the past!  This event was casual and fun! As you can see, I’m still rocking my Thailand braids with one more week until they come out! At the two  month mark, I’m ready for a change.

Fierce Friday Gratuitous Post|CurlFest & Altering a Hair Style To Your Liking

CurlFest142909This past Saturday was CurlFest. Last year I participated in the show and I must say that my experience this year tops previous! From the professional hair stylists and make up artists at All Dolled Up Salon to the stylists from Franchesca’s, I was impressed.

 My Hair:

CurlFest_collageTo achieve this look, my hair was first flexi-rodded all over.

The Red Rods Were Used

I sat under the dryer for 45 minutes and went home with the rods still in my hair. Because I was going horseback riding the following morning, we thought the style would hold better and we could prevent shrinkage, if the rods were still in.

Fierce Friday Gratuitous Post|Texture Shots, Effortless Turban Look, & Misadventures with Hair Color

Type 4 Hair
Type 4 Hair

Check out the eye candy! Afro textured hair is so versatile; it’s one of my favorite things about having this texture. At different states, wet, dry, product, no product, the hair can take on a different appearance.

FF_Turban_AdI loved the way this headwrap design turned out! It took me about 5 minutes! Stay tuned for a pictorial next week.

HairColorCollage675X372Yep, you read that right; three hair colors in one week! Stay tuned next week for my sob story and see how I recovered!

Have a great weekend!

“I’ve Had to be Okay with Being Invisible to Men” |Wednesday’s Word

I absolutely love this article!

Here’s what I know: I’m cute and I have a great figure. Whoever sees me, sees me. Those to whom I am invisible didn’t merit my time in the first place.–Carolyn Edgar

I believe every woman who returns to natural hair via the big chop goes thorough what Carolyn went through. Although she went from mid-back length locs to a TWA, rather than from relaxed to natural hair, the shock of seeing one in a different way can be traumatizing and spur regrets if one does not do it for the right reasons…that reason (in my humble opinion) being because they want to! I think it makes you develop character, self acceptance and leads to self confidence.

Video: Operation Black Hair

This past April, the army rolled out new regulations that essentially discriminated against black women with natural hair. Sergeant Jasmine Jacobs of the Georgia National Guard launched a petition taking issue with the approved styles, which are the “costly,” “time-consuming,” and altered ones like relaxed and weaved hair. But The Daily Show correspondent Jessica Williams decided to take it a step further – via Operation Black Hair, to educate others on the “complexity of black hair.”

Fierce Friday Gratuitous Post | Turbans & Headwraps ARE Protective Styles, Too!

Happy Friday!
For this weeks Gratuitous Post, I decided to share with my readers who hate traditional protective styles that Turbans & Headwraps are protective styles too!
PhotoGrid_1401563628099If you have an extensive scarf collection like I do, you may want to explore learning how to tie a headwrap or turban! You can also go to a local fabric store and purchase 1.5-2 yards of your favorite fabric and create a unique look that’s not already in your closet. Joann Fabrics has weekly 50% off coupons for fabric! They also take competitor coupons.  Mixing and match the colors and patterns to accessorize your outfit for the day is fun! They work for natural, transitioning, and relaxed hair, can be used to disguise a bad hair day or the fact that you’re deep conditioning while running errands,  and are appropriate at a variety of settings!

Fierce Friday Gratuitous Post | Razor Burn, Oil Infusion, Roller Set

Happy Friday! In honor of Fridays, I’ve decided to do totally unnecessary posts that essentially are a wrap up of my week! Let’s go!

PhotoGrid_1401985526333I started out my week by trying for 4 days to contact my barber, with no luck. I was in a crunch and I really wanted to look polished so against my best judgement I went to another barber. *Hangs Head in Shame* Long story short, I’ll be more explicit in another post but after being unsatisfied with the job the barber did, I went and allowed my barber to fix her error. I ended up with a severe case of razor burn.

Wednesday’s Word|Kinky Comes In All Races

Happy Hump Day To You!

When something worth sharing comes across my tweetdeck, I can’t help but to share it! This particular submission to a tumblr site, “How To Be Black” was particularly interesting to me because it was submitted by a white woman with “dirty-blonde fuzz” who wants kinky haired women to unite on the shared issue of hair bias.
