In a recent post I griped about the affects of color on my natural hair. I decided to give protein a try to strengthen my hair and curb and impending breakage due to cuticle damage from the color. In the past I’ve tried a homemade concoction using eggs (disaster) as well as the Aphogee 2 Minute Reconstructor; I was not impressed with either.

About protein: Protein treatments temporarily repair and strengthen hair by filling gaps in the cuticle and a small amount can also penetrate the cortex

I purchased 16 ounces for $18.99 from Amazon.com
The #2 ingredient is cetyl alcohol, but don’t fret, it’s an “acceptable” alcohol!
Lately, I’ve been trying to get back into protective styling in an effort to revitalize my strands. At the end of the week, it will have been two weeks rocking the same bun!
Let’s get started!

As always, I begin my adventure by oil washing my hair and scalp. Normally I use Amla oil; however, I am out of stock so I grabbed the nearest (and most plentiful) thing in my cabinet, castor oil. You can always skip this step and go straight to step 2, as this is not required.

Product is very thick and the smell is minimal. The amount will vary from head to head. Experiment!
As I rinsed out the conditioner, I used my wide tooth comb to detangle my hair.
Finally…

Currently, I am using the L.O.C Method to moisturize and seal
First Use Impressions
I really love this product! This morning, my hair was extremely soft and manageable. I look forward to the end of the week to determine whether or not the product will assist with moisture retention. I also noticed that my hair detangled easily and hair loss was minimal. Normally, I notice tons of shed hair on my bathroom floor and after using this product, I saw none. Time will tell in the coming weeks how well the product works for me long term.
I plan to integrate this product into my routine by using GPB bi-weekly; on the weeks I do not use the product, I will use my regular Deep Conditioner (O.R.S Root Stimulator Replenishing DC).
Will keep you posted!
Have you tried the Glycogen Protein Balancing Conditioner by Aubrey Organics?
I use this product weekly. I am in love with the AO line! I use it as a pre-poo and I also use the green tea cream rinse and the honeysuckle rose condish.
Just wrote a post about it a couple days ago.
