So today is the next to last day of the challenge and I decided to use my freebie and wear my hair out! I couldn’t wait! Earlier in the week I wore this style, with the ends well protected.
Here’s the rundown for this week:
Sunday was beauty day and I did my normal routine. Monday, when I took my hair down to style it, I noticed that it wasn’t as soft as it usually is; in fact, the strand felt dry and rough. The only thing I did different was instead of using my normal homemade shea butter mix, I used the Shea Moisture Deep Treatment Mask, as I was out of my own mix. I am thinking that maybe I didn’t seal in the moisture so the result is not the usual soft tresses, but a rough strand.
I usually don’t do anything too serious during the week, with the exception of occasionally re-moisturizing, and re-braiding, and re-styling, but the way my hair felt, I seriously considered doing some kind of treatment to assist me. I thought maybe I needed to do a protein treatment just to help my hair get back in to shape after not being take care of for the past month. I talked to my BFF (stylist to the DMV stars ;)) about it and she explained why a protein treatment might be beneficial for me. I’ve not had one since I stopped relaxing my hair 21 months ago. This weekend, when I do my co-wash, I’ll be using the Aphogee protein treatment, followed by my deep conditioner. Will update you on how it went! In the mean time, to combat the roughness, I used my mixture of water, glycerin, and peppermint essential oil to re-wet my hair and sealed with the shea butter I use on my skin. The difference between this shea butter and the mixture I use in my hair is the amount of oils I used; I prefer more oils in the butter I used in my hair then on my skin. The hair does feel softer. To achieve this style I:
- Re-wet my hair using the aforementioned water and glycerin mix
- Sealed with shea butter
- Separated a section out of the front of my hair
- I then wrapped the back of my hair into a high bun, and secured with a bobbi pin
- To the front section, I braided my hair and rolled the ends with perm rods
- Covered my hair with a silk scarf and bonnet
- This morning, I un-braided my hair and separated them
Overall, I’m pleased! I like the different look! Tomorrow I plan to pin the “bangs” back to comply with the PYE rules 🙂
I honestly have enjoyed this challenge. Sunday I will do a length check to see if this challenge has allowed me to achieve the growth I was hoping for.
See Ya Then!
