Nail Art: Wet & Wild Megalast Trio

Nails: Wet & Wild Megalast Trio $2.50 Scarf: Craftique Mall $1.00

After being inspired by all the ladies on Instagram with the beautiful glitter nails, I came across this Wet & Wild Megalast set at Walgreens, and had to purchase it! Originally, I wanted Essie, but their polish is $8 a bottle. This set comes with color, glitter, and topcoat polishes. Claims 5 day, long wearing, chip resistant.

Will confirm or deny at the end of the week. 🙂

To accomplish this look, I:

Applied 2 coats of the Undercover polish. What’s awesome about this polish is the Manicurve Pro brush, which perfectly contoured to my cuticles…Made for an easy application…nice and neat!

Kudos to Dads Styling Natural Hair!

Daddy Did a Great Job Styling Her Hair!

I had the pleasure of sitting next to this little girl and her father on my flight from Detroit (by way of Korea) back home. This little girl’s father amazed me as I watched him style his daughter’s hair! He had a brush, comb, AND conditioner (in a plastic baggie) and went to work on his daughter’s hair! It was an awesome sight! He meticulously parted, braided, and styled (with ponytails on the ends of each braid) her hair for about 30 minutes into the style you see in the picture, during our flight! Of course I got the low down on how he acquired his styling abilities:

Ode to the BIG CURLY FRO!

I love the Fro in general! It’s a beautiful halo that naturally adorns your head! You can pick it, spike it, mold it, shape it, and even curl it!  After your crown is perfect, accessorize it!

Enjoy the afrolicious eye candy!

I wondered how many people are so into ‘fros that they write about them…whaddya know!  People write poems about their love for their BAA (Big A$s Afro)!

My Afro Poem

I have an afro.

Throwback Natural: Diana Ross

Today’s Throwback Natural is the SUPREME DIVA herself!  Diana Ross, born is an American singer and actress. Ross was lead singer of the Motown group The Supremes during the 1960s. After leaving the group in 1970, Ross began a solo career that included successful ventures into film and Broadway. She received a Best Actress Academy Award nomination for her role as Billie Holiday in Lady Sings the Blues (1972), for which she won a Golden Globe award. She won several American Music Awards, garnered twelve Grammy Award nominations, and won a Tony Award for her one-woman show, An Evening with Diana Ross, in 1977.

Throwback Natural: Nina Simone

“It’s a new dawn, It’s a new day, It’s a new life For me, And I’m feeling good”
Nina Simone (I Put a Spell on You: The Autobiography of Nina Simone)
I hope no one is surprised that the quote above is a Nina Simone original…Jennifer Hudson sings it in her weight watchers commercial 🙂
If you aren’t familiar with Nina (born Eunice Kathleen Waymon), I am delighted to enlighten you.  Known as the ‘High Priestess of Soul’,  she could weave a spell so seductive and hypnotic that the listener lost track of time and space as they became absorbed in the moment.  An American singer, songwriter, pianist, arranger, and civil rights activist widely associated with jazz music, Simone aspired to become a classical pianist while working in a broad range of styles including classical, jazz, blues, folk, R&B, gospel, and pop.
We love and miss you Nina! Your music is classic and lives on!

Natural Superheros!

Have you ever seen a woman with natural hair so fierce that she had to be super-human?

My pick? Leela James!

Her Power? She uses her hair like Doc Ock uses his tentacles! One minute you’re basing your hairline for a dose of that creamy crack, and in the next second, wham!  She uses her powerful Hair Whip to combat that foolishness! You didn’t see it coming!

Do you know of any actresses, who are natural, that would make great superheros? If so, what would their super power be (power MUST pertain to her hair ;)?

Natural Throwback: Grace Jones

This lady invented FIERCE! I’m sure you know her as Stronge’ but she’s much bigger than that! Grace Jones is a Jamaican-American singer, model and actress.  Securing a record deal with Island Records in 1977 resulted in a string of dance-club hits. In the late 70s, she adapted the emerging electronic music style and adopted a severe, androgynous look with square-cut hair and angular, padded clothes.
